On-device first
Reports captured in the iOS app are read on-device where suitable. The app extracts supported values, units and collection dates, then presents an editable review before anything is saved.
Difficult formats
When a report cannot be read reliably on-device, the product may use the secure Australian-region fallback described in the legal privacy policy. The website does not expose a second parser or run a different extraction path.
Review before saving
A value does not become part of the record merely because text was detected. The person using Vector reviews every extracted value and can correct or reject it before saving.
The computer handoff
In the app, an existing user generates a short-lived, single-use code. The website normalises that code, checks it without consuming it, reserves a queue row, uploads the file to the private pathology-reports bucket using the server-issued path, then finalises the handoff. The app polls the queue, downloads the file, and runs it through the same extraction and review workflow as a file picked on the phone.
Retention and deletion
A handoff source file is transiently stored in private storage until the app receives it. Vector does not claim source files are never stored. The contract is that the source is removed once the reviewed extraction is saved, with cleanup for abandoned or stranded work.
What is actually kept
The durable record is the reviewed biomarker value, its unit, its collection date and the related context. Source files and high-granularity wearable data have different retention boundaries, described in the privacy and security explainer.
