What does CRP mean?
Routine CRP measures a liver-made protein that rises with inflammation. It is useful for following larger inflammatory changes and is distinct from high-sensitivity CRP.
What it shows and why it matters
CRP, or C-Reactive Protein, is a liver-made protein that rises when there is inflammation in the body. A raised result can accompany infection, tissue injury or an inflammatory condition and can help a doctor follow whether that activity is changing. Routine CRP is designed for larger inflammatory changes; hs-CRP is a separate test for much lower levels.
How CRP appears on your report
Look for C-Reactive Protein (CRP). The result is normally shown in mg/L, next to the reference interval used by the laboratory that ran the test.
Note the collection date before you compare it with anything, along with the context that matters for this marker: recent infection, injury, surgery, inflammatory illness and strenuous exercise can raise it. Routine CRP and hs-CRP answer different questions and should not be interchanged.

Inflammatory markers are non-specific. They can show that activity is present or changing, but not where it comes from or whether treatment is needed.
The interval printed beside your result remains the authority for that specimen. Reference intervals, diagnostic thresholds, treatment targets and Vector's tracking bands answer different questions and should not be substituted for one another.

When to discuss CRP with a clinician
Discuss a persistent rise, a marked change or a result accompanied by fever, weight loss, significant pain, swollen joints or other ongoing symptoms.
